Growing leaders grow leaders. In order to help emerging leaders learn and grow, I’ve discovered that small books with big picture vision are very helpful.
Here’s my list of ten small books (in no particular order) that make a big impact in mentoring growing leaders into Scripturally sound, theologically well-rounded, and missionally grounded.
The Master Plan of Evangelism ~ Robert Coleman
Jesus staked His whole mission on Twelve men who reproduced themselves. This book masterfully details what Jesus did, and what we must do, with those who follow Christ.
A Walk Through The Bible ~ Lesslie Newbigin
God is the Missionary. This brilliant book takes you through the story of Scripture with a keen eye to the Mission of God unfolding through the people of God.
In The Name of Jesus ~ Henri Nouwen
Spiritual leadership requires a spiritual leader. This heart warming book looks at the spiritual life of Jesus as a model for how spiritual leaders can care for their souls.
Sit, Walk, Stand ~ Watchman Nee
Knowing who you are in Christ is central to spiritual life. This survey of the book of Ephesians provides a helpful, Biblical and practical framework for life in Christ.
Basic Christianity ~ John Stott
The gospel is “good news.” This excellent book is one of the best ever for understanding the Person and work of Jesus. It’s loaded with clear Scriptures and powerful illustrations.
Power Through Prayer ~ EM Bounds
Prayer is God’s chosen means for empowering leaders. This amazing little book will stir you up to prayer, and show you how to pray in powerful and revolutionary ways.
The Green Letters ~ Miles J. Stanford
The Christian life is easy to misunderstand. This is one of my favorite books because it takes you through the various elements of spiritual growth with one central focus.
Following Christ ~ NT Wright
One of the great Biblical scholars of our day provides a stunning overview of what discipleship looks like. Dr. Wright surveys several Bible books with amazing insight.
The Great Divorce ~ CS Lewis
